Iceland: Day 5

Day 5 Itinerary:

  • Viti Crater
  • Krafla Powerplant
  • Storagja
  • Aldeyarjafoss
  • Godafoss

Day 5 started by doing quick drive bys of the places we missed on day 4. We then went into Storagja which is a cave with warm fresh water pools. The water was incredibly warm, and if we had a change of clothes on us, we would have totally went in.

We then went to Aldeyarjafoss, which took forever to drive to along a rocky gravel road. Also, the sheep along this road were little assholes! They wouldn't move out of the way. Anyway, this waterfall was beautiful. The water fell into a wide pool, which made me think of a cereal bowl, then narrowed into a bending river. The cliffs were of the same basalt columns as we've seen at other waterfalls and beaches.

By the time we got to Godafoss, my knee was killing me. After we banged knees at the hotel the night before, along with the massive amount of hiking we did, my knee was throbbing. I had a hard time keeping up, but I tried because I didn't want to miss out on anything. Godafoss was probably the widest waterfall we had seen. It was an incredible semi circle of water and the water was ice blue. My favorite part was walking behind the top edge of the waterfall and looking out. I sat on a ledge there for a little.

Driving to the hotel, we stopped in a small harbor town to watch the sunset. We spent the night at North Star Hotel, which we would spend 2 nights in. Of all the hotels, it was not that great, but it did have a pool table.
