Norway: Aurland Lookout

Following the hike to Trolltunga, we took a day off to sightsee. Our first stop was the back porch of our hotel! We arrived very late the night before, so we had no idea the view we would have until we went downstairs for breakfast the next morning. It was an amazing panoramic view of the Hardangerfjorden, and the water was so still it created perfect reflections.

After checking out, we headed to the Aurland Lookout by Saunders arkitektur + Wilhelmsen arkitektur. The lookout point is a 30m timber structure that reaches out over the Aurlandsfjorden. Although the form is expressive, it is also totally minimal to complement the surrounding nature. When you reach the end of the lookout point, there is only a plate of glass between you and the incredible view.

Our final site to see/drive through is the world's longest road tunnel, the Lærdal Tunnel, at 24.5km long. It is divided into 4 segments, each segment containing a stop off point where you could pull over for a rest. We got about halfway through before we decided to stop for a breather. To be honest, there wasn't much to see. The experience is all in the driving!
