Iceland: Day 3

Day 3 Itinerary:
- Jökulsárlón
- Laekjavik Coast
- Djupivogur
- East Fjords
There was't much planned for day 3, so we had enough time to go back to Jökulsárlón in the morning and take a boat tour of the lagoon. The tour guide was hilarious and very informative. He scooped up a small chunk of ice, broke it up, and we all ate a piece of it. They took us up close to some of the larger icebergs, but not too close because they tend to flip randomly. It would be amazing to see an iceberg flip, but also terrifying when you're on a small boat in the deepest lake in Iceland (248m)! We stopped by the black beach where the icebergs make their way into the Atlantic. We saw a couple larger icebergs bobbing over the waves and hundreds of smaller ones washed up on the shore.
The rest of the day was spent driving to our next hotel and stopping at random locations along the way. I'll admit, I'm not sure what most of these places were called, but I did love the spontaneity of it all. All of the sights were along the coast and East Fjords, which are sometimes looked over in favor of the West Fjords (I like the East Fjords way more). In one location, we walked out on a peninsula and sat at the very end for a little while. I think day 3 was my favorite day of the vacation.
We stayed at the Hildibrand Hotel in Neskaupstaður in an apartment style suite which was incredibly spacious and pretty swanky. It is definitely a place I would consider staying a few days in. We also ate at the hotel restaurant that night. We had cheeseburgers, fries, and Ebenezer got a milkshake for dessert, which was all delicious (saved the leftovers for lunch the next day) but the best part was the lobster soup. It was so amazing that Ebenezer even asked the waiter to ask the chef how it is made. It is basically a lobster broth with heavy cream and lobster chunks with a bit of melted butter on top served with bread. We'll try to make it one day, but I doubt we'll ever get it to taste that good because they used fresh lobsters fished from the fjord right outside. We'll just have to go back!
